PLAZA HOTEL HOLIDAY REVIEWS
Plaza Hotel, Buenos Aires
Warning - beware!! - Jim Brinkley. Date of travel: Oct 2007
Have stayed at the Plaza Hotel several times. It is always great. Need to add a word of warning about the area in general. On my last trip to Buenos Aires wanted to see LSU play. Only place in town that shows all American and European sports is an upscale pub and grill called Shoeless Joe's - El Alamo in Recoleta - not far away. Went there and watched LSU along with other people watching their games i.e. Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Texas USC etc. My complaint is that El Alamo is not a serious sports bar. The food, prices and service are good but do not expect to watch your game in peace. The place is packed. They have an insane policy of giving drinks for free to girls. Consequently you will be constantly pestered by groups of slightly intoxicated young girls who want to exchange phone numbers, e-mail addresses etc. Not to be too negative, I returned to El Alamo during the week. Apparently El Alamo is open 24 hours everyday and is always packed. This time I appreciated the groups of girls and met a girl who helped me with my Spanish. We became good friends. My advice is, stay at the Plaza hotel. However, do not watch sporting events at El Alamo if you are serious about sports.
