What can I say, the pool is dirty, weeds growing up through the concrete, it never gets cleaned, the water is dirty and smells really bad. Food is very poor and basic, they even charge you for having tea and coffee in your room £3 per day. Yes you have a fridge in your room if you use any drinks it's a small fortune, and if you put your own chocolate or drinks in it ,they charge you £2 per day. Entertainment ha ha ha, what a load of rubbish! Hell hole - the best word for it.

We stayed at the Avlida during late June - July for a two week holiday. As a former travel agent manager, I have experianced a number of hotels in many different countries and I have come to realise a few things about hotels in other countries. Most important of which is that you should be open to new experiences - no place can be, or even should be, like the UK. Med resorts such as Paphos need to cater for everyone, in a pan-european style. That said, the Avlida had a lot of Brits of different age groups.. The hotel management and staff did their best and successfully made our holiday one to remember. Following is a short overview of the points everybody looks at when on holiday.
Location: Not in the centre of nightlife, but surrounded left and right with restaurants, bars, pubs etc that aimed towards families, without excluding couples and singles that are not out to party every single night. O'neils, KFC, Pizza hut and a vast array of cypriot restaurants are on the way to the more lively harbour area. Do try the Olivetti restaurant 200 feet to the right of the hotel. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it. Frequent bus service to coral bay, the harbour and the old town market just outside the hotel.
Service: Very reasonable. Quick and friendly from all staff, the room attendants, reception, bars, restaurant and the management. We also tried the hotels massage service, book at the reception or she wont know what you are talking about when you go to the massage room. 15 pounds for an indian head massage seemed like a lot but it was done by a professional and was really worth it.
Food: Carvery on a few times a week, experianced head chef politely accepted all comments and professionaly dealt with loud complaints by a bunch of loud younger brits. Personally I found the food (breakfast and dinner, and on a few occasions some snacks and lunch too) to be very well cooked and well presented.
Drinks: All the classics on offer, no sex-on-the-beach or yellow blowhorn or whatever they are called nowadays. Full volume spirits. Do yourself a favour and try a local spirit called zivania.
decor and surroundings: Luxurious chandeliers, greek themed paintings, marble flooring in the reception, evening lounge bar and restaurant area, island theme and waterfalls at the swimming pool, all very nicely put together.
Swimming pool: Exceptional. The hotels strong selling point. Lots of sunloungers around a fairly large pool. Stay away from the kids pool area if you dont want to participate in the in-house entertainment activities.
Entertainment: Karaoke, bingo, couples games, darts, aerobics and excercise organised by the in-house entertainment team, immediantly recognisable as they wear orange T-shirts that really stick out from the crowd. Something for everybody at different times. Other forms of entertainment included live music which is not something worth getting excited about, but you must see the greek dancing night. Very very good, you will miss out if you leave cyprus without seeing and maybe even participating in one.
Rooms: Of ample size, comfortable beds, 3 speed settings on the airconditioning. BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, a couple of German, French and Russian channels. The 6 local Greek channels transmit a number of English speaking programmes and movies. No pay per view recent movies was available. Large dresser table and mirror, hairdryer and minibar. No tea and coffee facilities unless you pay for them. An important point on this: as a general rule, you have to accept that this is not provided at the vast majority of hotels abroad. Bathroom could of been a bit bigger. Size of balcony was ok. Room was kept spotless at all times.
No mentionable gripes apart from having to ask for a remote controller for the TV, which should have been there to begin with.
Avlida was a good hotel and is well worth a shot.

I have just spent a week in Paphos staying at the Avlida hotel this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. We were a party of 6 with 3 rooms, the rooms are very basic not at all like the photo's show on their web site. The bedrooms were all infested with ants, we were all asked to leave our rooms while they sent someone in to spray the room, one room was that bad, we had to re-locate, paint was fallen off the ceiling, air con didn't work properly. The bathroom was disgusting - there were tiles off the walls, paint coming off. The food was dreadful, cutlery had deposits of the last meal, watered down drinks. The manager was an absolute disgrace, unhelpful, unproffessional, I asked for the board of Directors details to make an official complaint and he refused to give me any help. Take my advice - dont go there, a definite holiday from hell, my personal rating 1/10 for opening the doors. When I was staying at the hotel I went onto the review site and to my horror found approximately 10 complaints where people had similar views to mine. This hotel has recently been upgraded to a 4 from a 3 star, I had booked and paid for 5 star accommodation, so who is mis-leading who? A guest in the hotel had a brochure saying this was a 3 star accommodation. The staff are treated like slaves. I also spoke to many guests who said never again. The Avlida Hotel doesn't even warrant a 2 star! Tour Operator: First Choice

The Avlida is amongst the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I have been to Cyprus a few times, stayed in four star and five star hotels always. This was priced cheaper than all of the four star hotels in Paphos. Food was excellent, so was the service. The swimming pool area is very themed and one could easily spend a full day there.
Its close enough to Kato Paphos - harbour, although the area around it is also quite nice. Its 3 minutes walk to an above average beach. You might want to try the all inclusive option, it worked very will for us.
I will be going back to the Avlida Hotel for sure. Tour Operator: Medhotels
