Villas Doradas is possibly the worst place any person could have the misfortune of staying in. I stayed for 20 hours and refused to stay any longer, my reasons for leaving were as follows - There is a foul smell as you approach the hotel. The smell you will discover comes from a swamp to the rear of the hotel and apparently the hotel waste water empties into the swamp. A small stream runs from the swamp to the beach and eventually into the sea. The smell is absolutely disgusting especailly at night. In the bedrooms, pillows and mattresses were foul smelling, when you remove pillow cases and the sheet covering the mattress, you discover both mattress and pillows covered in stains - some in congealed blood. The walls are covered with damp and the paint is flaking off the walls through dampness. Also, there appeared to be mucus on the walls. In the bathroom there were pubic hairs in the bath and it was uncleaned, ants and other insects were in the WHB. The general condition of the rooms was dirty and unkept. In the Reception area an electric socket was hanging off wall exposing bare wiring and in one bedroom room the air-conditioning unit had the Control Unit broken open exposing more bare wires. In the May of '03 my husband and I visited the Dom Rep and stayed at the Villas Doradas. We had an extremely relaxing time helped by the brilliant and friendly staff and the fact that the weather was ace too, even though it was hurricane season. The food was always fresh, hot (where applicable) and DELICIOUS! The excursions provided for us were brill and we had tons of fun, will be revisiting just as soon as our little one is a bit bigger!
