I went to Luxor last year, alone. I did feel nervous as there were a lot of locals hanging around outside hotels, best just to say 'la shukran', when they try to sell you something, like going on fellucas etc. If you're with spouse, friends then maybe ok, but be careful. Make sure you know price first, especially if getting taxi. Pay before you reach destination, ask and pay first. Hotel very clean, friendly staff, nice food. St Josephs is a Christian hotel, where as most are Muslim, although still very friendly to everyone. I must admit I didn't hardly tip in hotel. I did not know much about tipping and their way of life. I have done research since and it is their way of life and it's a great help to them to provide for their families, they get very little money and work long hours so please be generous to them. I am going to Sea Club Resort 28th Oct 2007, Sharm el Sheik. I am going alone again so I would love to hear from any ladies or men for that matter who are going there at this time. Most are families, couples, so it would be nice to meet someone on their own. Please get back if you will be there or have been there.

We stayed here in 2005 for 1 week & are in the process of booking to go back. Before our visit to the St Josephs we had stayed in 4 star hotels in Luxor & we were a little nervous about going to this hotel. We had our 7-year-old godson with us on his first ever holiday & we had found this hotel matched our budget for an extra holiday that year. At first sight we were a little put off as the front of the hotel is very plain, but we were very warmly welcomed & the reception staff went out of their way to put us at ease. We were given a very roomy triple bed room overlooking the street with loads of storage space, a tv, fridge & bathroom with bath & shower. The balcony was tiny but we got our 3 chairs out there & a table so we could watch Luxor's street life below us & a great view right across the Nile in front of us. There is a small pool on the roof with loungers & a truly great snackbar serving everything from steaks to burgers and again, a fabulous view of the Nile. The breakfasts are buffet style with lots of choices, both continental & hot food, lots of fresh juices & fruit. The restaurant in the evening is very good & they offer you vouchers for 7 meals (3 courses) for £35,which again is a very varied menu & there is a basement bar which is very popular & reasonable. The hotel is very clean with lots of linen changes & our godson was thrilled at the towel sculptures on the beds every day.The staff were all lovely, especially to young Declan & made a huge fuss of him. The balcony was child safe as it has high narrow railings,& we could not fault this hotel. It isn't particularly grand but what it lacks in style it makes up for in its warm treatment of the guests. We cant wait to get back there.
