The Residence Hotel in Mauritius is a wonderful blend of modern comforts and old colonial charm and service. I couldn't fault the hotel; the location is great, on the Belle Mare beach - one of the best beaches in Mauritius. The area is fairly unspoilt, to the left of the hotel is another 5 star hotel, the Beau Rivage, and on the other side is miles of empty beach. The main hotel restaurant, The Plantation, is excellent. We stayed at the Residence in September and the weather was variable. This side of the island is less sheltered than the West or Mauritius, and can be windy. There was also more cloud and rain than we'd have liked!
