We stayed at Vamizi Island in Mozambique as part of our honeymoon - we were going to do the Caribbean but decided on Vamizi after a recommendation from a friend. Its actually much easier to get to than the Caribbean because the time zone is similar and you just take an overnight flight to Dar es Salaam and then get a private plane straight to the island. The staff at the lodge are wonderful and offer a great reception. You'll be amazed how beautiful the island is - much better than the website suggests and totally unspoilt. The lodges (there are only 12) are quite seperate from each other so it seems you have a private beach to yourselves. You have the option to either relax ... and that's easy here... or get involved with some of the activities such as scuba diving or game fishing (both of which are really first-rate). Having stayed at lots of quality places all over the world we found Vamizi very refreshing - there is no swimming pool, its not lavish but is extremely comfortable and incredibly relaxing.
