The hotel is clean, being newish and is similar to what you would find by a motoway hotel, clean and basic. This hotel, however is very basic, and you need to bring in extra cash if you want any extra service. As an example breakfast was not included withthe price of a room and the price of breakfast was astronomical.
It is in the middle of a very poor district of St Petersburg (in fact most of St Petersburg is poor, but that is another story) and it is miles from any of the historical sites you would want to visit. The district is rough for want of a mild word, and I would expect this would kill your holiday a bit. It would take you an hour to walk (if you could find the route) to the hermitage! Also when you walk, watch out for the pick pockets they are everywhere! DO NOT have any cameras, money in pockets etc - hide them.
Service at the hotel, they just did not have a clue, very poor, not helpful, forget it, expect nothing and you will be satisfied. We got the feeling they just wanted your money and tried get it any way possible. My business partner sat on a toilet seat and it broke! the first thing people would ask in the UK is Are you OK, here the first words that was said you have to pay for it! Do not go on their excursions, you pay too much. Just get a taxi. As an example to Pushkin it should cost you 1000 roubles; to the airport it should cost you 700 roubles.
But in reality it is best that you stay away from this hotel!
