The Franschhoek Country House and villas have been newly renovated and we were fortunate enough to stay in one of the new villa suites. Enormous! Each villa has an entrance hall with coffee and tea facilities and a bar fridge (beware the cost of the minibar! tempting but pricey!), a large living room, a deck with luxurious chaise-longues (which were taken advantage of by what looked like stray cats???), lovely huge bedroom with comfy bed and a bathroom the size of most peoples apartments!! Attention to detail was great, from a fruit basket to things like a mini-sewing kit, moisturisers etc. in the bathroom. The cupboard also had a useful built in safe for our valuables. We had a delicious dinner at Monneux restaurant which is attached to the Country House. The food was excellent, but like the accommodation, the restaurant was very quiet as it was winter. This did mean that the staff (helpful as they were) hovered alot and one got the sense that if you put something down they might whip it away because they had nothing else to do! Also, when we were having a pre-dinner drink by the fire, about 3 or 4 waiters and bar staff were lurking, waiting for us to empty our glasses so they could clear them! The next morning we feasted on a breakfast buffet - delicious and filling with lots of choice and fresh everything. We overdid it but thoroughly enjoyable. All in all, a 5-star experience!! We took advantage of their winter special so the dinner, bed and breakfast was all included. A lovely winter break. Tour Operator: n/a

Lovely setting, great service
We visited Cape Town, South Africa in January for three weeks for a friends wedding. Its such a great place with lots to do, beaches, wine farms, mountains, great people, weather... I could go on. One of the highlights was visiting Franchoek where you eat well and can stay in great comfort at the Franschhoek Country House. Its quite small with 26 rooms and guests are looked after exceptionally by the staff. We were in a suite which was very comfortable and huge - unnecessarily big really, we would go standard next time. The decoration is tastefull and there are nice touches like lavender on the pillow etc. They have a good restaurant - Monneaux (we ate there twice) and I also recommend Haute Cabriere in town and Petit Femme just outside. There are lots of other good options as well. If we returen to Cape Town we will visit Franschhoek and Franschhoek Country House again.
