Sun Tropical Holiday Village, Playa Blanca
The Sun Tropical Holiday Village is a vast facility offering the best and most varied entertainment for families and groups. The Playa Dorada beach is just 700m away, and there are ample attractions nearby. However, the facilities available on-site are enough to keep guests entertained and happy. These facilities include great swimming pools, relaxing sunmore

We had been to Lanzarote many times but we weren't expecting Sun Tropical Holiday Village and Play Blanca, which wouldn't be normally where we would go, to be so brilliant! It was brilliant for children and had good entertainment. The pools were excellent, and the food was quite nice and so was the Irish bar.

Well were do I start, I was dreading going after seeing some of the bad reviews cause I'm really fussy . Had a fantastic flight with first choice, all went smoothly from start to finish, got to the Sun Tropical Apartments, speedy check in, only downfall was if you landed late at night there is no where to get any milk or snacks as everything is closed by 11 oclock so take some with you. Room was clean and of a good size. There were 4 of us 2 adults & 2 teenage girls 14 & 15 yrs & they had an absolute ball and met loads of mates. The staff on reception at the Sun Tropical Apartments are very welcoming and always have a smile. All the First Choice reps work so hard nothing is too much trouble. The E3 entertainers Jason, Gareth, Holly, Mel & Alli were all fantastic they produced some wonderful entertainment in the dome and in the Village tavern every evening. All other information about back gate key and supermarkets are on other reviews so I'll not bore you with them. Anyone who is going you'll not be disappointed.

We went to Sun Tropical Apartments after my Mum and young sister went 2 years earlier and thought it was great. I thought the food was shocking which is why we decided to eat on the Playa Blanca front every night which was great. I thought there were far too many children, that may sound stupid coming from a 15 year old but it's true. Nothing for teenagers and you can't get on the football pitch unless you pay Ł23 for coaching sessions which was a disappointment. The pools are very cold verging on freezing. The local staff are very rude and unhelpful. Have a habit of ignoring. I thought it was terrible that you were forced out of the bar at 12 midnight even if you had drinks. They forced you to put them in plastic containers and leave. Nothing after midnight which you could tell didn't go down well with many people. Most reps were good but were let down by the local staff on site who were uninterested. The site is very secure and generally clean and the apartments are spacious, however, the TVs mess up at night which is really the only time you are likley to use them. The acoustics in the Entertainment dome are terrible, it comes to the point where you can't understand anything being said! Free drinks for children is fantastic but I am just glad we weren't all inclusive and decided to spend most of our second week at the Papgayo Beach which was lovely. The new Marina is nice and the front is good. Very good location with a ten minute walk to the front and in the taxi it takes about 4 minutes for €3. Nothing happens in Playa Blanca after midnight either as we went looking when we were chucked out of the bar. Good internet facilities but the supermarket is poor. I wanted to use the gym and sauna but they had age restrctions which didn't impress me. Basically don't go all inclusive. Great if you have a young family and you don't plan on having a raving good time! Most couples without kids or adult only parties - just don't bother, you would be horrified!! Best to sleep there, and spend most of your time at Playa Blanca, beaches or the Marina but don't plan your whole holiday around the camp.

We are a family of 4 (2 children aged 4 and 5), we went away April 2007. Lovely apartments - really clean and great maid service. Good clean pools. Good entertainment. However, we went for all inclusive, breakfast was good (the same every day) but lunch and dinner was hit and miss, we really struggled to find food for our children to eat. So if your kids like chips you're ok for at least 4 meals!!! The bar service if you go all inclusive was really, really poor. At some points you would be ignored if they saw you had a band on, but this wasn't a problem if you were self catering. The older children who we saw were also being ignored. The snacks were not that good either! Not much choice and not that nice. I would go again but there is no way it would be as an all inclusive customer. Feeling like a second class just wasnt worth it.

Holiday Village is a VERY CLEAN base 'camp'. Once thru the iron gates! wow what security! It was a 10-15 min walk to beach/bars/restaurants & we like to burn off the calories before we put them on so no problem & believe me the temptation to put them on is great in Playa Blanca! with array of good unpretentious tapas/canarian/pizza restuarants & friendly family music bars to spend quietish evenings in. Holiday Village itself good esp for those who like to participate in tennis/football/quizzes with loads of diversions for under 12s with plenty of swim' pools & sun loungers on site supermarket not a rip off very convenient. Gym free but only small & not well-equipped really.

It was great at the Sun Tropical Apartments. The entertainment was brilliant and all the rooms were clean. All the pools were also clean and really big, there are more pools than it says there is, it said there was 4 pools but when I got there, there were 9. We went there in November 2006 and are going back in March 07 because we liked it that much. If you read a bad comment about this hotel/apartments, dont read it, none of its true!

We are a family of 4, two children aged 8 and 5 medium earners from a semi in Somerset. In 2005 the Sun Tropical was a very pleasant resort to visit and ideal for a family with small children. That is why we returned this year. Sadly though the resort has gone into decline. The local staff are rude, complacent and non sympathetic to your needs. The First Choice staff have all changed from the previous year and are of a very poor standard. To be fair they try but don’t cut the mustard not even close. The food is OK, but again is nothing like the standard of the previous year. The pools are dirty and be warned often have glass in them. My daughter cut her toe on glass in the main pool. Luckily it didn’t need stitches but was a big worry at the time. Be aware that some apartment showers also are a danger to small children, often creeping up to very high temperatures that would scold an infant due to faulty thermostats. We brought these issues to the First Choice staff but it was paid lip service as a result children continued to get cut feet and at least one that I know off was scalded in the shower. On our last day they closed one pool due to guess what “Glass being found in the pool a bit late after being informed 6 days previously. The apartments are clean, serve a purpose and the air con works. My advise would be, yes by all means stay at the Sun Tropical apartments to visit the beautiful Playa Blanca but don’t use the pools, eat the food or bother to ask for assistance or complain to either the local hotel or First Choice staff because they simply don’t care. Complacency I think. I hope it improves but we will never return.

I went to the Holiday Village this year in July and it was wonderful. We had a big sized apartment and the apartments were very clean. The strip was also very good with great prices that you can afford. There are also plenty of discos and the food is very tastey. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it 9.

Holiday Village was very interesting the weather was beautiful for the two weeks we were there. Everything is at your front doorstep and to me that is what you want. Me and my children really enjoyed it and the prices are pretty low. The apartments are a good size and the place is very clean. I really enjoyed it and next year we will be returning.

We loved the Sun Tropical. We have 2 children and it was perfect. The apartments and holiday village are clean and safe. The entertainment for children and adults was fun and varied. The food was good, lots of choice. We went on the all inclusive which was great with the children. I would recommend this holiday village to couples with children. We went on some of the excursions that were arranged through First choice. The south island tour was very interesting and long enough for small children. The yellow submarine was great, a little expensive but worth it for the experience. We loved our holiday. Tour Operator: First Choice

A good "Butlins "style holiday village in the sun with lots of children but plently for them to do. Soccer school for our 11 year old was great and helped him make new friends quickly and soon he was out and about the safe secure site with these new friends and had a great time. Gave us and other families a break. Not so much for the adults but if the kids are happy thats more than half the battle. Trips good but a bit pricey. Reps and staff enthusiastic and friendly. At southern tip of island so might consider a car to see rest of Lanzarote. Tour Operator: First Choice

We enjoyed Sun Tropical, with two children; it was good. We thought the food was ok, quite a good choice, reasonably priced. Playa Blanca reached through a rear gate and then a 20 mins walk, which was ok. There wasn't much for us adults. Also drinks were a bit expensive. All in all we would consider going back. Value for money. Tour Operator: First Choice

We thought we were going to a Spanish apartment complex but it turned out to be more like a holiday camp. The complex was over run by children and the food was terrible: made both us sick one night. We could not wait to return home because of the complex, not the resort. Tour Operator: First Choice
Andy and Gemma. Date of travel: Jul 2005
We would not recommend the Sun Tropical apartments. We are in our early 40's and don't consider ourselves old fogeys but the complex was noisy and overrun by children. The food was horrible, constantly reheated and the entertainment amateurish. We got away from from the complex as much as we could during our holiday which was a great relief. Tour Operator: Cosmos
Enjoyable - David and Sandra. Date of travel: Jun 2005
We have just returned and must say how enjoyable it was . Yes it can be like Butlins if you look for it. We are in our 50s with no children and must say how relaxing it was. The town is about 10mins walk away but you will need a card for the rear gate. Tour Operator: First Choice

We really did not enjoy our stay at the Sun Tropical apartments. The complex was very big and had a holiday camp feel about it. Loads of children here who seemed to take over the place and it was difficult to find a quiet spot. The food was poor and entertainment 4th rate. Great resort, unsuitable accommodation, unless you are taking children. It is also at least a 35 minute walk to the centre in the evenings which was very annoying as we did not want to stay in this awful place in the evenings. Tour Operator: First Choice

Sun tropical apartments had very friendly staff, excellent accommodation, and loads of activities to do either for kids or adults. As a recent visitor of the apartments, I was never bored (maybe a little as I was with my grandparents!) as there was many activities for me and my family to do. If it was going to the football, volleyball or tennis cages. There was also "the dome" where there was constantly a show or bingo to do. The bars were great and the pools even better. I would definitely go there again and would suggest holiday hunters going there too. The hotel was not far away from the beach or town for a nice day out. 9/10 Tour Operator: First Choice
Holiday Village - Helen simon and luke Payton. Date of travel: Jun 2004
The Holiday Village was very good again going with First Choice get direct transfers no other drop offs which ws good, The apartments were clean good size and well equipped. The only downside is that it is a little far out from Playa Blanca it is a lovely walk in on a straight road but some may find want sonething closer. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the meals we tried were good. Tour Operator: First Choice
