Basic but very clean, cleaner came every day. Pool cleaned & checked every day. Manager even arranged for me to go Horse riding, they collected me & dropped me back free of charge. We had a full cooker with oven not like most self catering places, fridge, washing machine, toaster & kettle. On the corner is a lovely ice cream place where I bought the best pancakes with choc & banana Yum!!

The maribel Apartments are very convenient for all amenities- one minute off the main avenida at the quieter end of Puerto del Carmen. Best Italian restaurant just around the corner and beautiful new Casino complex five minutes away. Small beaches just across the road and two main beaches 10 mins in either direction. Level walking and no steep hills like other parts of Puerto del Carmen.

Maribel Apartments is on the corner of Calle Frankfurt and the promenade. If you turn left on the prom there are a few bars, shops and restaurants and a Spa. If you turn right there's a lot more. Lots of restaurants called Lani's, each specialising in a different cuisine. We drank every night at a bar called Paradise. The PRs wouldn't really let you go past without coming in for 'buy one get one free' (till 2am - open till 4am). We loved it in there. Everyone was really friendly and we got extra free drinks every now and then. That was only the start of the strip. You get a bit hassled further on by the main strip of bars but we carried on a bit further to the 'American and Indian Bar' where there was a 'live' band pretending to play guitars. Even further up is Route 66 and at the far end is Linekars. In the day 'Sunset Beach' is a great bar to chill out, on a rooftop, nice food and great view. It's towards Linekars at the other end of prom up some steps. There's one club we found open till 6am (and this is January remember) called Club 928, ladies get in free and men 10 with a free drink but they didn't seem to charge all the men!? The beach is across the road from Maribel but you need to walk 10 minutes to the right for the main part with sunbeds and pedalos. It was 5 for 1 lounger & brolley or 8 for 2 loungers and a brolley. We had a massage from a nice Chinese girl which was about 15minutes each for 10 (shoulders and back). She was good, or so we thought till a 60-year-old Canarian woman came along shouting, 'Marie Massage, you've not had a holiday till you've had a Marie Massage!'. She scowled at us when we said, 'no thanks we've had one.' She said 'Huh? Chinese woman is rubbish, no certificate, I've been doing this 9 and half years and 15 minutes is not a proper massage!' It was so funny, but she never told us how much she charged when we asked! The only trip we did was the 'Catalanza' 65 and well worth it. We booked it at 'Last Minute Excursions' which is on the prom half way down. Bus takes you to Puerto Calero harbour then you spend about 4 hours on the catamaran with free drinks, fruit, a jet-ski ride, the option to have a swim and use snorkels, and of course lunch which was choice of tuna or tomato pasta, grated cheese, bread and salad. They take your picture when you step on board but it's 7 and is displayed in a bar opposite the boat when you dock. The host on board, Stuart was bonkers; really funny, especially describing how we were to flush the loo and climb down the stairs backwards and giving us safety instructons! We were back by 4pm. Also in Puerto Calero (next town up) there's an Ibis hotel where the public can pay to use the spa and solarium. But massages need to be booked in advance. We didn't fancy visiting Fuerteventua as it was too much hassle getting to Playa Blanca harbour. I recommend Maribel apartments for those who want a cheap hassle-free (no reps) accommodation. They're central and close to the taxi ranks and all amenities, including a doctor across the road. Even though I think we had the dodgiest room, I'd still stay there again - better the devil you know! Overall we had a great time :)
