We stayed at the Asali Suite for our honeymoon for 5 nights - we were terribly disappointed. The personal chef just bought food from the main dining room of the rest of the bungalows and heated it up. It was pretty awful most nights and sometimes inedible. The staff were sweet but not particuarly flexible. On meeting the manager Monese he told us to just think of money and we would remember him. This was the last we saw of him after he took our passports. We had no hot water for our stay as we had not been told where to turn it on; we found out on the last night that there was a nightwatchman around the hut - we had not been told this either - I may have slept better if we had known this bearing in mind how close you are to the slums. The amount they charged for drinks from the fridge was ludicrous - if you hadn't updated your honesty tab from the night before by 10am you would be bought off the beach to fill it in. On top of the price of the bungalow I think that to have to even pay for water was not acceptable, especially when there is nowhere nearby to buy it. For anyone thinking of going to stay at the Asali Suite I would not recommend it and spend your money at another hotel on Zanzibar where hopefully you will get better service and food.
