Located on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is very tranquil, quiet--definitely a place for couples rather than families. Cannot say enough good things about the staff--they were among the friendliest of anywhere I've ever stayed. Only drawback was the resort felt a bit cramped. Never loud, but proximity to other guests felt a bit tight at times. Beach is not expansive, and there seemed to be a dash for the best spots directly after breakfast. We were in a garden room at the back of the resort, and though we had no ocean view, we were very glad of the privacy. Lots of foot traffic between beach and restaurant/lounge past ocean view rooms, with the exception of four deluxe rooms beyond the dive centre. Overall, lovely stay, and beauty of the area would be tough to match.

The Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is situated on the very northern tip of Zanzibar on a empty secluded beach. It has around 30 rooms – so not quite boutique, but still offers personal service and comfort. Most rooms are sea facing and look over the wonderful turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean – you can clearly hear the water lapping on the shore at night. The cheaper rooms are at the back of the hotel – not facing the sea – but the probably doesn’t matter as days are spent by the pool or on the beach. The rooms are fairly average, but this is made up by the excellent hospitality and service. The restaurant serves great food and is the best option in the area. The Ocean Suite is very private and comfortable – though I’m not sure it’s worth the additional cost. There is a PADI dive centre on site which has daily trips to the Memba atoll which has the most to see for scuba divers and snorkelers – Turtles, stingray, octopus, moray eels, lion fish and dozens of colourful types of fish and coral. Hotel is mostly full of couples and not ideal for children (as they would be unwelcome by other guests!). I’d definitely recommend Ras Nungwi and will visit again if we can.
