The Sultans Palace Zanzibar is on the south coast and is a boutique hotel. Its is very comfortable with a fantastic setting on the beach overlooking the turquiose indian ocean. The hotel rooms are well decorated with locally-made wooden furniture, billowing pillows, cusions and silks. Only downside was that there was no shower (water shortage) and cheap foam matresses. The restaurant is on a cliff overlooking the ocean and the chef serves local seafood including lobster, prawns and squid. Sultans palace is great for a few days relaxing but not much more to do than read books and snorkle. I suggest a zanzibar spice tour if you're interested in cooking. A short stay in Stonetown is also interesting.
