Animal lovers should avoid Grand Onder Hotel - Scott and Mary McCandless. Date of travel: May 2008
In many respects, the Grand Onder Hotel was good. The food was good (not great), the service was excellent, and our room was clean and pleasant with a great view of the marina and harbour. However, the Grand Onder has a parrot in a cage in the lobby, and the bird is living in deplorable conditions. Its cage is filthy, the bird had very little food, and the food that it did have was of poor quality. We tried to talk to the manager of the hotel several times, and the manager was never available (or never willing) to speak with us about the bird’s condition. We left a hotel rating form at the registration desk with a detailed complaint about the bird’s condition, and we followed up with an e-mail, but we did not receive a response to our form or our e-mail from the hotel’s management. The bird was living in such terrible conditions that, by the time we checked out of the hotel, we were both very distressed and depressed. We are left with a very poor impression of the Grand Onder despite its other good features.
