I spent 6 months altogether in Belize, the memories that will stay with me longest will be my visit to the Toledo Ecotourism Association(http://www.plenty.org/mayan-ecotours/) in Southern Belize - a village guesthouse program that has won numerous rewards for socially responsible eco-tourism. Belizean politics and the government's attitude towards tourism development mean that the government fails to promote tourism to this region and continues to marginalize the indigenous communities there, instead promoting the hotspots further north.
