Pompano Beach Club, Bermuda - Stephen Whitney. Date of travel: Nov 2008
My wife and I spent 7 nights at Pompano Beach Club. From the time we were greeted at our arrival to the morning we left, we both agreed that this resort was one of our best travel experiences. Excellent meals at both breakfast and dinner were equaled by the quality of service. The staff went out of its way to make certain you were having a great day. Pompano Beach Club is a fine location on the southwest coast of Bermuda.

Just to let you'll know I live in Bermuda. Its actually not apart of the Carribean which is why if you have been here you would notice that we do have a British accent. There is other means of transportation for tourist besides hopping in a taxi of catching a bus. Because Bermuda is a very small island we are unable to rent out cars but they do have mopeds for rent. Don't be small minded about renting one just try to be safe. I ride one everyday and prefer it better than being in a car. The only tricks to remember are go slow, dont be nervious, and stay on the right side of the road. (we are British so we travel on as ya'll say the wrong side of the road). If you don't feel safe don't do it.Yes Bermuda has crime. Its not that bad to other places though. If you can name a country that "don't" have crime let me know. I would gladly take a trip there. I've been in the USA when a fight broke out and had to run from someone pulling out a gun so trust me running from a "baseball bat" like some one else said is nothing compared to a stray "bullet". "Stay away from dangerous areas", "Stay in well-lit tourist areas, and never go out late alone"..... everywhere has a ghetto but believe me they are not that bad. Its actually the most cleanest ghetto I've seen and i have travelled to a few country's and was like Bermy ghetto's are a joke.Where are the "tourist areas" i live here and the only thing i can come up with is the whole island. Bermuda is small and we don't have a "specific" tourist area like some countries do. For those who don't travel often a word of advice is go online research the place find out where things are. Get to know where you are going before you get there. I eat out all the time and trust me I dont pay no $50.00 per person. A word of advice eat in a resturant drink at a bar. Saves money on gratuities. Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda and is our city. What city is not busy? That's where most of our stores are. Don't miss out on it because someone else can't take the city life. I wouldn't trade my country for the world.

Its the most beautiful destination I've ever been to with so much for everybody see and do. There's plenty water sports...excellent for scuba diving, museums to see, shopping is excellent in Hamilton, with local buses and ferries travelling around the Island its hard to be bored. Although Bermuda has a Caribbean feel to the Island it still has its Traditional English style of life. The people will go out their way for you and everyone is so friendly. Personally I can't wait to go again. Tour Operator: Prestige Holidays

Bermuda Highlights: Touring the island by bus and ferry is the best and most affordable way to see Bermuda. Bermuda’s “pink beaches are among the most beautiful in the world. We traveled light, leaving most of our money and credit cards in the hotel’s safe. Beach tourists are prime targets for thieves and pickpockets. We rented beach chairs and umbrellas that cost about $50, but were given a refund of $15 when we returned them. On Friday we rented a Boston Whaler for a half day at $135 from Grotto Bay. We wanted to explore Castle Harbor and Castle Isle. Castle Isle is on the edge of Tuckers Town, where all the millionaires and at least one billionaire (Ross Perot) have homes. The pristine beaches on Castle Isle are public property, but can only be reached by boat. We found the water here crystal clear and great for snorkeling. Bermuda restaurants are expensive. A sit-down lunch can cost $50+ US dollars, and dinners with wine and drinks will easily exceed $100 per couple, but there are ways to save money. Bermuda Travel - Quick Tips/Suggestions: Always use lots of sun block. Bermuda's sun is deceptively cool. You can still get a pretty bad sun burn. Travel light with most money and credit cards in a hidden money belt (leave your backups in the hotel safe). Second-best choice is a fanny pack or backpack. Bermuda has notorious snatch and grab motorcycle thieves that will grab a handbag at full speed, often dragging the victim until they let go. Don't give the thieves a chance to get your stuff. Stay away from dangerous areas. Tourists in quieter, run down areas will be spotted quickly and victimized. Stay in well-lit tourist areas, and never go out late alone. A taxi ride home late at night, even for a short distance, is well worth the cost. Avoid boisterous crowds and ruckus. Spectators can and do get hurt and arrested. Crowds outside popular bars have turned into free-for-alls where knives and baseball bats have suddenly appeared and people have been seriously hurt. Don’t get involved and get out of the area as quickly as possible at the first sign of trouble. Finally buy a good Bermuda Travel Guide. Best Way to Get Around Bermuda: Transportation in Bermuda is limited to public transit on affordable air-conditioned buses, expensive taxis, and dangerous moped scooters. We stayed on the buses. A $39 one-week pass (starting any day of the week and finishing seven days later) gave us unlimited access to all the buses and ferries. The new hydrofoil “fast ferries are especially fun, and the ferry rides to Dock Yards on one day and to St. George on another day were very pleasant and comfortable. You'll also get to see those amazing millionaires' homes located on isolated islands. Tour Operator: independent travel

Stayed at two hotels the first one was the Horizon Cottages, in the resort of Paget, a very warm welcome from the hosts, the decor was a little 80's and floral for my liking, and the hotel is a little way from the beach. Cambridge Beaches, was another hotel we stayed at which was fantastic, very natural decor, fantastic views from the rooms, friendly staff, and most of all the food was out of this world. Other hotels that stood out on the island were the Reefs, and the Elbow Beach. Bermuda is not to everyones tastes, it is a laid back beach type island, with the only transport available to tourists being taxis or local buses it can add extras onto your normal spending money, the cost of living can be expensive but their are restaurants where you can eat reasonably, my advice would be to stay out of Hamilton when their is a cruise ship due in as it gets very busy. Their are many attrations available in Bermuda, such as golf, water sports, diving (just avoid the triangle), horse riding, and swimming with the Dolphins. Tour Operator: prestige
