Lions mating in camp at night. What a surprise and unforgettable experience in Botswana. On our stay at Makgadikgadi Camp in Botswana I was woken in the night by what seemed to be my neighbors (They were so close )The male and female make an amazing amount of noise when mating. I was informed that we will be safe as long as we do not leave our Accommodation at night. This was a experience I will never forget. Tour Operator: Dumelabotswana

If looking for a totally wild and true bush experience then forget the likes of the Kruger Park and head to the remote reserves of Botswana. The Central Kalahari is miles away from anything, has loads of wildlife and sees very few visitors, which means that you have the lions, elephants and cheetahs to yourself! Camping is in individual sites that are open to the bush and all its inhabitants, so basic rules for safety need to be adhered to, to avoid dangerous encounters with animals around the tents, especially at night. Visitors must be entirely self-sufficient as there is no water, petrol, food or anything anywhere close. The scenery is breathtaking - big sky and flat plains. Another remote destination is Mabuasehube in the southwest - also no fences and separated camping sites, but these have individual showers, toilets, shade and water. Tour Operator: Independent
