Is it safe to travel in China??? - Thomas Ho. Date of travel: Nov 2007
I'm a Hong Kong Chinese, I travel to Shanghai almost every week because of Business needs. I cannot remember how many times I saw pick pocket in Shanghai. Most of them are teenage and came from Xinjiang provinces. Try not using backpack! Ensure your wallet, passport and mobile phone are always well protected. Always stay away from the kids in the street. If you are a Chinese, you can easy to point out who is came from Xinjiang. If you are not, then good luck!! The strange thing is the police and the government are certainly aware of it. But no action at all. Even the police will say.
Hainan Island - Linda Morris. Date of travel: May 2007
Hainan island was a fascinating destination with stunning beaches and superb hotels. Swimming in the South China Sea was a great experience and there were a wide range of watersports available. The hotels are all well appointed, with some of the best bedrooms and spa facilities I have ever seen. The only drawbacks would be that the food is not geared up for the western market. Chinese food is very different in China!! You also need to be aware that during summer not only is it very hot but also very humid.
Hainan Island - Tracy Costello. Date of travel: May 2007
Some of the most fabulous beaches I have ever seen in my whole life! With great watersports including diving, golfing, etc. Spas including treatments such as the kissing fish. Karaoke bars, nightclubs, BBQs, a working harbour, shopping malls. Can be combined with a stop over in Hong Kong and a trip to Beijing. A truly different holiday.
China - Deana Manser. Date of travel: May 2007
I have just returned from what I can only describe as a holiday of a lifetime to Hong Kong, Hainan Island and Beijing. (home to the Olympics 2008) Hong Kong was excellent, offering every type of tourist amazing excursions, shopping and eateries to suit all tastes. This really is an amazing city that I would definitely return to. I then went on to Hainan Island, otherwise known as Sanya. The beaches were completely untouched and will leave some of the Caribbean and Thai beaches out of the water for sheer beauty and pure white sands. This really is a tropical paradise. Then onto Beijing, what a huge city offering everything from the famous silk market with 7 floors of shopping, guaranteeing any holidaymaker a bargain. Sitting next door to this metropolis city you have all the history perching on its doorstep. I went to the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and then the Great Wall itself. This will leave you in complete awe and give you a sense of pride like no other when you take those tentative steps up this iconic piece of history. A visit to China will leave you with a lifetime of memories and the urge to return back again.
Guilin Travel Guide - William Qin. Date of travel: Jan 2007
Guilin City is South China's shining pearl, with verdant mountains, elegant waters, and magnificent crags and fantastic caverns. The scenery of Guilin has been called the finest under heaven. Guilin enjoys a mild climate with sufficient rainfall. The Limestone, weathered and eroded by water, became today's fantastic stone forests, peaks, underground streams and caves, thus giving unique features to Guilin's scenery. The mountains are rising abruptly from the ground, stand in various stately shapes. Moreover, they have in them a great number of colorful caves. These mountains with strangely-shaped peaks and caves of unique formation, together with the crystal-clear rivers surround the city are very attracted by all the people. Many foreigners have a good impression of Guilin's special scenery.
Boundless Journeys Bhutan - Jeff Holmes. Date of travel: Oct 2006
Bhutan really exceeded my expectations. They really are in their own world, and the people and the country are absolutely amazing. Bhutan is glowing in my dreams and I still can't believe this place really exists. Boundless Journeys, www.boundlessjourneys.com, did a perfect job of showing me this special place.
Visiting Xingjiang China - Jean S.. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Kashi in Xinjiang is a city full of a mixture of races, from the back I saw a European but the front was Chinese or vis versa. The Islamic influence is present in the food and architecture. There is a fantastic square, the Id Kah Mosque, and traditional neighborhoods are worth a visit. Take a trip to the Taklimakan Shamo Desert, Urumquie (a bustling city for a desolate region of China), and Junggar Pendi. Take note of the resistance to Chinese culture by the original habitants of this region.
Drive the Tibetal Plateau in China - Jean S.. Date of travel: Sep 2006
A beautiful drive in China is as follows. Lhasa, Bomi, Zogang, Markem, Batang, Ya'An, to Chengdu. I saw traditional Tibetan living, a river that looks like tomato soup, raspberry colored pine cones, and Yak herding. Stay with a Tibetan Family and experience their nomadic way of life. The bustling city of Chengdu is a bit over whelming after the slow rural life of the plateau.
Travel Khunjerab Pass to China - Jean S.. Date of travel: Aug 2006
This highest border pass in the world links Pakistan and China. It is full of wonder. The landscapes are ever changing from dull to vibrant natural hues. I saw some little critters and birds wandering around. The pass is chilly and the border patrol will search your belongings. The huge mountains change from boulders to slate and eventually huge desert dunes as you pass by the Taklimakan Shano Desert to reach Kashi.
Bejiing - Deb Robinson. Date of travel: Sep 2005
The great wall alone is worth the trip to china but i have to say, i lost half my body weight through vommitting and diahorrea from drinking the 'bottled' water and eating anything that wasnt boiled within an inch of its life. on top of this i caught what i thought at the time was SARS but turned out to be a mild flu by chinas standards. The people were very rude in bejing and at times quite threatening. we were harrassed constantly and people kept staring and pointing at my shoes. I often saw people excreting in the street meters from where others prepared food. Tere is a glob of spit every few feet. Were glad of the experience but we will never return to Bejing.

I was in China twice. Chongching, the heaviest populated area in Southwest of China and Beijing, the capital city of China.Because of their geographical position, part of china has 4 seasons while the other part 2 seasons (tropical area). Yuan is Chinese currency; advisable to get a change at the airport or Hotel. No, or almost no, money changers. Language..Chinese..they write everything in Chinese characters (not Latin). You will be blind and deaf outside your hotel: very rare people speak English and almost none outside big city. Every sign written in Chinese characters. Adviseble to take a tour from the hotel with English speaking guide. If you're travelling by taxi do not forget to take a hotel name card written in Latin and Chinese characters in case you got lost. Food, mostly spicy Chinese food, advisable to bring your own water and food while travelling. Western food is rare except in big city. Public Restroom is not recommended at all: go to a hotel, big restaurant for pee. Scenery....beautiful man !!! The most popular tourism area is ancient places, like Great Wall, Forbidden City, Palace, and or temple. So..have a nice trip Bro !!! Tour Operator: None
China - William Sullivan. Date of travel: Jun 2005
My wife and I visited the China last year. Although we've been waiting to travel to China for a long time, it was a sudden decision to visit the country last year. A Chinese friend of us invited us to his wedding. Getting our visa expedited at a visa service in Houston, we started our trip to China. My friend showed us around Beijing. It was so great to see the Great Wall of China! Our journey to Guilin was handled by Beijing Trip. Their service is good. But I have to complain that the food is not good. We have to eat in touristy restaurants. Be careful of shops in tourist attractions, they are really expensive. Tour Operator: Beijing Trip
Paul Cheng. Date of travel: Dec 2004
China is proud of its culinary art. Chinese people value their way of dining very much. There is an old but still-being-quoted saying 'Food is the first necessity of the people.' Delicious and nutritious food has been regarded the basics of ordinary life. In general, people in North China favor noodles, dumplings and other staple food made from flour while the majority in the South almost consumes rice daily. Despite the difference, people throughout the country adopt the traditional way of cooking prevalent in their respective regions. All together, there are eight schools of cuisine that is also popularly known as the 'ninth art'. They are Beijing Food, Guangdong Food, Sichuan Food, Shanghai Food, Zhejiang Food, Hunan Food, Anhui Food and Fujian Food. Tour Operator: China Travel

Yang Shuo on the southern part of china, near Gui Lin is a wonderful place, it is a perfect place to go for adventures and antique shopping. Try to go there at august when everything is easy and really cheap! You can hire local people to take you cycling to mountain caves through some fields surrounded by typical Gui Lin hills and to some rivers where you can take a really fun and fantastic ride on those chinesse classic bamboo raft. Shopping is really great too, very low prices (you have to bargain though... the prices could go lower than you can imagine!!!) And great cafes everywhere all over the town!! Nice bars too. And the town is so beautiful. There are mountains in the middle of the town. And everything is really really cheap. I spent only about US$100 in 3 days for everything!!! Including transport from Nanning. But my friend went there at high season and he spent a lot. So you should probably watch the time to go there
