• COLOMBIA HOLIDAY REVIEWS

Colombia
It has received so much bad press, because of its criminal gangs and drug trade, that even the most intrepid travellers are put off of a holiday in Colombia, the country sitting atop South America. Those who do visit the country, especially on organised package tours, generally emerge unscathed however, and full of praise formore
Amazing Colombia - Tina. Date of travel: Apr 2008
Tourism in Colombia is starting to boom and rightly so. It's one of the few countries in South America that has almost every conceivable travel attraction. I'm a huge fan of the beaches at Park Tayrona in especially. Cartagena is an amazingly beautiful and romantic colonial city. The islands of San Andres and Providencia have amazing beaches and turquoise seas - I'd love to go back there. If you want advice on destinations, paisatours.com is probably the best online travel guide to Colombia.

Colombia is a nice country, even with internal problems. USA goverment are to blame for bad press in Colombia... makes you think why!! As they say, a few bad apples don't spoil the barrel. Don't put down till you try yourself. Try the food as it's a must, very healthy, far better for you than western junk food rubbish. It is very sad you are not able to visit the outer villages, jungles they are beautiful. I plan to live there sometime soon and would say to any person try staying for a while you won't want to go home. Colombia has better social & public order than some western countries such as UK or the gun happy USA.. says a lot does it not!? The people in Colombia are very nice and helpful.

The truth
Most of the things I read about security in Colombia are not true, if you go to a big city like Bogota, Medellin or Cartagena you will be safe. A lot of British citizens and other European countries come to visit and they stay for good, so don't post facts about the national security of Colombia without even knowing. Most of the news you see are not part of the reality.
I Loved Colombia - Travelsapien. Date of travel: Feb 2006
Colombia needs to celebrate its good things. The country gets a bad rap for the years of media attention on issues many other countries also have. A country of contrasts with great food, super regions to travel, antiquities, great people, festivals, art, music and dance. As safe as many other countries. Just use your good sense. Would return in a flash. I loved Colombia!
Colombia - Karla Leary. Date of travel: Oct 2005
As a whole, Colombia was our favourite place we travelled in South America. We stayed there for over 6 weeks and visited lots! The scenery around Colombia is just breathtaking, so lush, green and so so many waterfalls. The people were very friendly, we had no issues whatsoever. The border crossing was probably the easiest and safest that we encountered. A must see is San Agustin, its off the beaten track but well worth the visit. Cali is great for the parties, Salento is the coffee region, again not many people go there, but its a must and so beautiful. Cartagena and the Rosario Islands (the Caribean Coast) and Santa Marta, The Lost City is just amazing. Taganga has the most amazing sunsets Go there!!! Colombia is a must and its great to travel whilst it is not so commercialised! Dont be put off by the stories, its mainly history and dont believe the Lonely Planet or else you would never go anywhere. Its widely referred to the Lying Planet in South America. We had great accomodation throughout Colombia, you will find that the main ones promote each other for when you arrive to your next destination, and the value for money is fantastic.
