I had a ball and I have been raving to my mates back here in Australia about the great surf and culture I encountered whilst on holiday in Fiji. Nagigia Island was really breath taking; I was totally overwhelmed when I got there. I couldn't believe my luck really being able to stay at a place like that. Fiji was the very last stop for me on a six month around the world journey, and I felt that after all the travelling, experiences and thousands of miles that I had done, I had finally stumbled onto what I considered paradise.

I was on a trip to Fiji when I met a local tour guide who suggested to me to take a cruise on the Sea Spray, a yacht that caters for tourists that travels the Mamanuca group of islands for a very cheap deal: meals and drinks are served on board for free. So, I went down to their tour desk at Denarau Mariner where they nomally port for embarking and disembarking. I spoke to the lady at the desk. She said: 'You'll be boarding the cruise ship, a catamaran which travels at 15 knots. Once you reach Mana island resort you'll board the Sea Spray(yacht) and travel the Mamanuca group of islands for a day cruise to Yanuya island and then to Monuriki in which the shooting of the movie Castaway was done in which Tom Hanks starred.' To my excitment I bought a round trip ticket to visit the fabulous group of islands in the Mamanuca group. The first island we stopped was a village called Yanuya in which the ladies are famous of selling handicrafts and making pottery for the tourists. I met with president of the women's club for a quick talk, she was really a nice woman, very easy to be with and helpful. She took me to her shop and met her husband Inoke Nabou not only a rugby player but a diver as well. For those of you who are planning to visit Fiji sometime soon, don't hesitate to visit this island it is so beautiful and the people are so fantastic, they are more willing to take you out for a free dive except you pay for the fuel for them to take you to the reefs. I bought quality handicrafts from Ruthie, she packed it well and gave me good advice on what to do when entering customs and immigration with the carvings and necklaces. Thank God my staff arrived home safely with me. Spending 45 minutes on Yanuya island was a dream fulfill in my life, then we were told to round up our shopping and board the Sea Spray to our final desitination Monuriki island. I have never seen a place full of peace and harmony the corals reefs, the white sandy beaches and island itself is so beautiful. I would recommend if you going to Fiji this is the place to visit. May the Almighty bless you all in your travelling. Love Susan. Tour Operator: South Sea cruises

Fiji is one of the most beautiful places I have visited and the people some of the friendliest in the world (which I can not say for Bali, Cook Islands who were beyond ignorant). Maybe it depends where you stay but Liavata lodge on the Waya Island (yasawa) was amazingly beautiful with fantastic snorkelling as well as the chance to see a 'real' Fijian village. There was great interaction between the islanders and the guests. The food was fresh and the price for 3 meals and accommodation was amazing value. No electric and cold showers but that was the experience. If you want the Ritz then don't go here, if you want culture without bowing to tourism then it's the place to go. I just hope it doesn't get spoilt as it's a piece of paradise that's hard to find. Tour Operator: independent

Yanuya - fantastic if you can do it - Don Mitchell. Date of travel: Jan 2005
Fiji is a bit of a pirate's haven, mixed with a western hint. The Fijians are starting to have western aspirations, but with little to sustain their desires. Wages are about $3.00/hr, with goods costing approx. the same as anywhere else. Not good. The people are as good as you could find anywhere. Very friendly, nice people. I have only found one or two occasions where I was a little uncomfortable (rich white guy in a poor country). I am not rich, but the Fijians seem to think that any white person is. I have seen most of the Mamanucas and some of the Yasawas. I do prefer the Yasawas, as they are more remote, and to me a bit more enjoyable. Wherever you go in Fiji, the native people are very friedly, I would trust them with my life (and have). Enjoy your time with them, it is a throwback to a time long since forgotten.

Sheraton Fiji resort on Denarau Island excellent - but rest of country over rated - if you want a holiday staying at the resort and chilling out it was excellent - but if you want a bit more thats where it lacks - much prefer Bali or Phuket Tour Operator: independent

over-rated, racist, and the worst service. No offence but they would only serve the whites. Due to my resemble to a local indian I got the worst service. Very unproffesional. Tour Operator: on our own
