What a beautiful country! We visited Stuttagart, Nurenberg, Munich and Frankfurt. We had only planned on staying in Nurenberg for 1 night but stayed there for 4 instead. It really is a beautiful city with old canals and venetian walls. I would highly recommed it! If in stuttgart try the Kasespetzle! Absolutely lovely. The Volkfest (Stuttgarts answer to the Munich October Fest) was amazing - with alot of people telling us they always travelled there rather than travelling to Munich. In general we found prices cheaper than Ireland. Eating out was very reasonable compared to Irish pubs - you could also smoke in the pubs! What joy! If you are in the train stations late at night take care - you will see some less friendly individuals about but I think as long as you are aware of who is around you and you dont travel around on your own you will be fine. I didnt really think much of Munich because it was too big and because of where we were staying. The cheaper hotel rooms in Munich are near the Hauptbanhof (main train station) but this is also one of the rougher areas. I would recommend staying closer to the main parts of the city if your purse would allow it! In general the tourist information centres are the best places to go to get hotel rooms! Lovely place, lovely friendly people despite the sterotypes. Everyone is very friendly - I have spent a total of 3 weeks there - the only rude people I came upon where Irish tourists! This was the first time we had travelled to Germany. Much of the German countryside is very pretty and picturesque. We were there for 3 weeks and toured the country from Munich in the south, to the Harz in the center, the Rhine in the West, and to Kiel in the north. Most Germans speak a bit of English, but its worth learning a few phrases if only to be polite. The subway is the best way to get around Berlin and the other larger cities, while the trains are best for traveling from one city to another, but note that they dont all live up to the reputation for German punctuality! Enjoy your travels. Justine.

Horrible experience with Avis in Munich. Their customer service has not responded to emails or telephone calls. Would never rent from them again.
