Iceland
A holiday in Iceland is a truly unique experience. The land of fire and ice where the Vikings once reigned supreme offers spectacular natural wonders, from the spouting hot springs of Geysir to the magnificent Gullfoss falls, Europe’s largest glacier and whales playing in the ocean. Even urban Iceland is a different experience from themore
Fantastic tour guide - Lulu. Date of travel: Feb 2008
Went to Iceland for a surprise 50th birthday. Booked day tour with Tour.is. Turned up promptly with amazing super jeep in pristine condition, very clean and even bag of travel sweets. Took us to some fantastic locations over the ten hours and made sure we could do both snowmobile and husky sledding. An absolute minefield of information about anything you wanted to know including history, religion, parliament, fishing, commerce, nature and of course volcanoes. Not your boring old tour guide but more like a friend knows exactly what you want. Yes, the tours are expensive, but so are the normal run of the mill tours that you can go on. It's definitely worth spending your krona with this tour and maybe forgoing the restaurant in the evening for a hotdog down by the harbour. The best tour I've ever been on.
Land of Fire and Ice - Margot Hinz. Date of travel: Aug 2007
Iceland is a magical country, full of folklore and fairy tales. The perfect description for it is the Land of Fire and Ice, as you can go from the top of Mt Hekla (one of the most active volcanoes) to the amazing aqua waters of Jökulsalon, a glacial lagoon. For Iceland you need at least two weeks to see it all, the Golden Circle, Jeep rides on the glaciers, Horse riding, the magic waters of the Blue Lagoon, the Black beaches and of course Reykjavik. If you look past the unpronounceable names and price of your stay, it will be like becoming part of the stories you were told as a child.

Iceland - getting outside the Golden Circle
If you like an outdoor vacation with hiking, beautiful scenery, a wide variety of sights and few people, an Iceland tour is a great place, especially if you get beyond the Golden Circle. The Golden Circle is an area near Reykjavik where most of the tourists can be found on tour buses making a one day trip of the sights in Iceland. However, the sights in the Golden Circle just barely scratch the surface of things to see and do in Iceland. We purchased a tour package from Scantours which included 8 nights accomodations along Iceland's ring road, highway 1, and a rental car. We were able to choose our sights, spend as much time as we liked and stop for other attractions when we wanted. We did a lot of driving on a few of the days, but overall it was worth it. Lots to see from mountains, glaciers, craters, lava fields, geysers, hot springs, coastlines, fjords, waterfalls, etc. We went around the first of July and the water melting from the glaciers resulted in so many beautiful waterfalls, we had trouble because of the number of times we were stopping for the view. Things were very expensive. Gas was approximately $8/gallon. A 12" pizza was about $30. If you go into anything referred to as a restaurant, it will run about $100 for two without any alcohol. Long days (never any real darkness) around the first of July allowed for sightseeing and driving well into the evening. Occasionally found ourselves walking a trail at 10:00 pm because it was still light. Great trip, beautiful sights. Our only disappointment was the travel agency. I would recommend making your own reservations or working with a travel agency in Iceland. We used Scantours and found that the communication with the car rental agency and accomodations was not good resulting in problems and surprise charges when we got home even though we had followed the written instructions and communicated with the agency by phone. When we arrived, our information packets regarding location of accomodations couldn't be found, the car rental company didn't know who we were, the hotels and car rental companies kept asking us for vouchers for payment which had not been provided. It would have been better if we had been working directly with someone local in Iceland. Otherwise the sights and the country were wonderful.
City break with a difference! - Tammy Brown. Date of travel: Apr 2006
Reykjavik is a great diverse city, a must for someone looking for a city break with a difference. There are many natural wonders to see including the Blue Lagoon, Gulfoss water falls, and Geysers which are all a must. It is very expensive to wine and dine but if you are travelling for just a few nights, its worth every penny. The restaurants serve a variety of dishes, but the speciality is the freshly caught fish -absolutely amazing!!. There are not many places in the world that offer such spectacular scenery and great nightlife. I would recommend it 100%. Tour Operator: Cresta

We had a stay for 5 nights in reyjjavik, htl radisson sas ,4*, approx 15 minutes walk to the centre of resort. very comfortable hotel with bar, restaurant. whilst we were their we booked day excursions. We went to see Gulfoss waterfall this was a wonderful sight however very windy and cold, Blue Lagoon which is an experience in itself with all the thermal springs, we had shopping days in reykajvik although it isnt the cheapest of cities. the price of food was really expensive for example fish and chips in a bag from local fish shop was approx £16.00, a 2 course main evening meal without alcohol approx £90.00 Weather was really cold in november (-12) so need to take plenty of warm clothing .
