• LIBYA HOLIDAY REVIEWS

Libya
The north African country of Libya, sited between Egypt and Tunisia with a lovely stretch of Mediterranean coastline, is fast gaining popularity as a holiday destination having emerged, but a few years ago, from being a political pariah labouring under sanctions. This Arabic country oozes with exotic history and colour, with Bedouins roaming its desertsmore
Libya is great - Brian and Carol. Date of travel: Sep 2007
Some great ancient ruins and relatively unspoiled by mass tourism, the locals are very friendly once you get to know them and there are now some good shops and restaurants.
Tripoli - not to be overlooked - Debra Lawrence. Date of travel: Jun 2007
Only a brief visit , but a country not to be missed of any travel trip. I felt very very safe as a woman travelling alone. The locals made me feel very very welcome. Letis Magna and Sabratha is a must visit. The driving techniques are worth watching, all could enter the Grand Prix. With no MOT reqirments on vehicles, you would think some are going to fall to pieces as they manouver the pot holes in the roads. No road rage at all, in rush hour, with it seems to be 24/7 in Tripoli, you just weave in and out of each other, and smile, what a pleasure. No outdoor loos so prepare yourself, and when or if you do find a loo, chances are there is no loo roll, so carry some in your bag. If you get invited in to a local home, take up the offer as you wil be made to feel so welcome. Also the Libyian underground barbacue......wow! Not to be missed if you get the chance to go. Exceptional tour guide who was very well read up on the historical places and I am told he was only one of seven registered to guide in Libya. So much more to see so I will be back to this country. Ladies you dont need to take shoes with you, as all our makes are there in abundance and so cheap. High class restaurants are clean and cheap.
