Take a trip to Atar and Chinguetti in Mauritania but don't ride in the back of a pick-up truck to get there you will feel like you are roasting in an oven. Auberge Sahara in Noukchot is helpful, clean, and economical. Another Auberge Sahara in Atar is lovely and has a tiny pool. The owners have a friend running a hotel and Auberge in Chingurtti. I really liked Auberge L'Eden because it has a tiny pool, fresh dates and mangoes, and good hospitality in this oasis of the harsh Sahara desert.
