SENEGAL HOLIDAY REVIEWS
Senegal
With a coastline consisting of an endless sandy beach it is not surprising that the west African country of Senegal is a prime holiday destination, particularly popular with southern Europeans. The ethnic majority in Senegal are the Wolof people, famed for their colourful dugout canoes, used by fishermen and for exciting races along the coast.more

Senegal - Jack. Date of travel: May 2008
St. Louis was the first city I visited and I loved it. More because of the people I met, but the town is cool too. Why? Well, it's chill and has a bunch of ex-patriots which took the edge off of traveling Africa alone for a few months. I found the food in West Africa fairly dull but St. Louis provided a bit of interesting cuisine. Then I went to Dakar, but I wrote about that on this site already. And then to the Casamance. Ziginshore is the laid back capital. With fun excursions reaching out into the beaches and jungles.

The thrumming, bass-beating heart of West Africa - Nigel Tompkins. Date of travel: Mar 2006
Although Dakar is quite pricey for the region it does offer a variety in comparison to many other cities around the area. We had spent time further north in Mauritania for a while and were on our way down from St. Louis which is quite the contrast to this, the current capital of Senegal. Dakar is loud and in-you-face but its definitely the place to head to savour the delicious fish dishes of the region and enjoy the famous djembe drum culture that makes the region a world music capital. We found cheap hotels around "The Ponty" better known as Ave. Pompidou which is as central as it gets here. The markets are colourful and range in everything and every salesman trying to sell you something or just have a chat makes them worth the walk. The Westernmost point of Africa is worth a visit, near the lighthouse on the extravagent Route de la Corniche where one senses for a minute a second south of France. The beaches are simply wonderful... Tour Operator: none
