St Kitts And Nevis
The twin volcanic islands of St Kitts and Nevis, divided by a narrow channel are a tropical holiday paradise for thousands of lucky visitors. Besides revelling in the natural beauty, tourists enjoy discovering the rather tempestuous and often bloody history of these tranquil islands, where colonial European powers fought for sovereignty over the rich plantations, more
My trip to St Kitts - Wendy John K. Date of travel: Dec 2007
We landed in St Kitts and spent 4 days at the Marriott... I just love this island! From the moment we landed until we left we felt so safe, secure and welcome. The places I would recommend is Ciao for Italian food... excellent! Also Monkey Bar... good food but slow service and yeah shiggidy shack- loved it! Also Turtle Beach is lovely... we did go to Nevis but the ferry ride both to and from were always so late and delayed... The highlight of my trip was my shopping at Portzante especially Glitter Jewellery , I have in my past seen many jewellery stores but their prices and quality is simply unbelievable... I saw some really beautiful canary diamonds and also lots of white diamond jewellery and colored stone jewellery... I did buy a canary Diamond from Seema and Gary (owners) at Glitter. The whole experience was fantastic. After I got home I had it appraised and was so thrilled to find out how much we had saved.... Pelican Mall wasnt that great and most of the stores were pushy. I liked Glitter Jewellery the most. In the nights however the island sucks. There isn't much of a nightlife however the club at Marriott is quite nice. And of course how can I miss the casino? Won at the roullette :-) We went golfing at Nevis at the 4 seasons with a friend. Was better than St Kitts golf course. In a nutshell, it was a great trip.

We love it so much we're in the process of securing our second home there with a long term view to retirement. Like most places if you give you get more back. Our second visit showed we were remebered and liked. It's something to be greeted everywhere you go with enquiries about how you are doing and how are the family. Personally for us we regret every minute away from the island. Tour Operator: Just StKitts & Nevis
Not like other islands... - Les. Date of travel: Aug 2006
It is almost like this entire island is just starting out in the tourist trade (it is the only major industry here). The people are at times rude and terse. I will caution any women, especially those travelling alone, the island men do not hold women in general in high regard. They will openly persue you down the street if they fancy you. Also, don't be unnerved if you hear men hissing on the street that is like their catcall, still disrespectful though. Not a lot of shopping, there are a few local crafts in shops in the Pelican Mall near the port. I've had good luck bargaining with street vendors though not shop owners. The circus is fairly photogenic and is 1 block away from duty free jewelry stores in the port, I recommend the glass artist that has a shop there- beautiful work. Restaurants- The hands down best casual place to eat is Spratnet's. It's on the northern end of the island in a village called Sandy Point on a clear day the sunset is spectacular. Get there around 6:30 for the lobster they sometimes run out. They only serve four entrees: bbq lobster, chicken, ribs, and grilled catch of the day steaks (30USD for whole lobster & half rack of ribs, with sides) The lobster and ribs are phenomenal. Also across the street is the dingiest little rat hole place you've ever seen that has no electricity but they have the best rolls ever. For 8 ec you can get 6 giant rolls. They don't mind if you eat them at Spratnet's because they don't serve appetizers. After dinner, next to the bread place is a blue building, only open at night that serves the richest most delicious cakes, by the slice. The lady that makes the cakes also paints and she has some nice art on display. The best fine dining is another hands down---Marshall's in South Frigate Bay. Pricey but well worth it, nice romantic atmosphere- the duck and filet are wonderful, the service is also usually prompt. Slumming? Shari's chicken shack has the best bbq chicken on island. It looks like a toolshed but is cheap (15 EC for a ton of food) and quick. Attractons: Hiking to waterfalls or up to volcano crater. Brimstone hill-- scary drive up the hill but wonderful views. The gift shop is extremely reasonable there. Snorkeling -- the best snorkeling from beach is on the southern of the island Cockleshell Beach and Majors Bay- Not a lot of live coral but a wide array of sealife. Whitehouse bay is pretty secluded but there are underwater cannons and a shipwreck that is not far offshore.
St Kitts is great - Gary. Date of travel: May 2006
St Kitts is a great island to visit, and I've worked on a lot of islands out there. Still one of the cheapest to visit. Stay away from the expensive hotels, restaurants and eat at Patsies which is at Timothy Beach just behind Mr XS - try her fish rolls!!! Cheap food and plenty of it. Ladies be careful if you travel alone, taxi drivers are the worst. Be firm but polite in resisting the "charms" of the locals. Go down to Shipwreck to meet all the Brit ex pats, you will be made very welcome.
