Sweden isn't the country I saw when first travelled over there 25 years ago. No calm days close to the cities. It lost much of its charm and is nowadays pretty similar to any other country in the western world, missing anything special.

Everything is very organisedin Sweden. People are very friendly to English speakers and English is widely spoken. Bus, train and tram transport is incredibly well organised. Some beautiful trips to be had. I personally recommend a trip to the southern archipelago. The Swedes like their fashions. In fact they are a bunch of poseurs! Plenty of dedicated followers of fashion here, and especially the males! From an Irishman's point of view I must admit to thinking there must be a Gay Pride thing happening but alas, its normal to dress this way if a Swedish male... Think "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Overall, not bad. Will I be coming back? probably not. A bit sterile for my liking.

I travelled to Stockholm at the end of November and Sweden was exactly what I expected, absolutely freezing. Even though it was so cold and snow was everywhere it just added to the Christmas feel. Stockholm isn't a city to do on a budget as its very expensive, I mean a Beer was around pound3.50 - pound4.00. The Swedish people are very friendly and a warm welcome greets you at every bar or restaurant. The city is also great for site seeing and if history is your thing then a trip to the Gamla Stan area is a must. Tour Operator: Thomsons Citys

Sweden itself is a wonderful couintry if you like to get away from it all. Alchohol is very expensive but there are wide tracts of land where you won`t meet a soul. Tour Operator: DFDS

I was a bit disappointed to find that not all Swedes were tall, blond haired, blue eyed and beautiful as I had always imagined. Yes, many were tall, but the hair was often dyed and not usually blond either! I found them all extremely friendly though, they speak perfect English (even the station sweeper) and are very well dressed in the trendiest fashions - I felt quite scruffy in my traveller's gear and even the kids wore makeup! People chat incessantly on their mobiles, even the bus drivers, and suprisingly most people seem to smoke!
