Very pretty - Lois Smalley and David Smalley. Date of travel: Jun 2004
Very pretty
Our holiday was to a tiny place called Llanfair, near Harlech. It is a very pretty little place, near to the sea, although our accommodation was about a mile inland. There are some slate caverns there, but after finding that I wasn't fit enough to negotiate another slate cavern the previous year, we decided to give these ones a miss, although we did find the other one fascinating. As you drive into Harlech, the sight of the castle is very impressive, perched as it is on the top of an extremely high cliff, but apart from the castle Harlech doesn't really have much else going for it, although it is a nice place, with friendly people. Betws-y-coed is lovely, with all the beautiful waterfalls, it also has some nice shops to look around. For some reason, we've always been lucky with the weather whenever we've been there, it always turns out hot and sunny. Maybe we should actually stay there in future! We took a drive to Barmouth, but were disappointed. It was like Blackpool on a small scale, and none too clean, either, so I won't go on too much about it. On our last day out, we drove to Aberdovey, a pretty place, not an awful lot to do, but a nice sea-front and beach, lovely for kiddies. Our cottage was absolutely gorgeous. It was on a working farm, and although it was fairly recently built, it looked quite old and quaint. We had all mod cons, including washing machine and dishwasher, TV and video. There was a field of cows just in front of us, and we got regular visits from a couple of sheep, mostly grazing our small garden, but one day, one of them came right up to our patio door, staring in at us! We wondered how they got up to us, as the gate was always closed, until one day I was looking out the window, and saw two sheep walk along the top of the wall, and then jump off on our side! The Griffin Inn - Jane Bavin. Date of travel: Jan 1970
My partner and I stayed for a long weekend at The Griffin Inn in Felin Fach earlier this year. We had two fantastic days walking in the Brecon Beacons and couldn't have found a more accomodating place to stay. The restaurant served incredible food and the rooms were exceptionally comfortable with feather duvets and linen sheets but thankfully without any of the nick nacks you expect in a provincial pub. I could not recommend this place to stay more. The food, rooms and service were all fantastic. Tour Operator: Independent travel
