I spent a glorious week on the island courtesy of British Airways Holidays. I stayed in a private villa at Galleon Beach close to English Harbour. The whole of the island is adorable & quite easy to get around. The capital, St John's, has something for everyone with shopping, local museums & the very famous cricket ground. It can get busy on certain days of the week when cruise liners dock there for the day. Take a trip on a pirate galleon complete with rum punch refreshments! Shirley Heights offers magnificent views across the whole island & is easily reachable. The beaches are fantastic with excellent watersports Tour Operator: British Airways Holidays

Hawksbill Resort - Well worth a stay - Kristine Waldron. Date of travel: Jan 1970
Hawksbill Resort is a great place for two people and/or a family to spend some quality time. If you desire a loud, rowdy crowd this is not the place for you. If you remember the movie Dirty Dancing, you will think of it while at the resort. The staff care about the "place". We arrived late on our first day as our flight from St. Kitts was routed through Nevis, both places we had been visiting the five days before our time in Antigua.... The staff was most polite on our check-in, Donella offered us a cool cloth and a glass of sparkling wine to toast our registration. Our first night we stayed in the beach front cottages on the front beach of the property. Nice size room, but had two double beds. AC, nice open porch and location was a plus. We requested to be moved to a room with a King Bed. Our request was granted. Ken Roy was at our room this morning to move us to the Honeymoon cove, what luck! We had a lovely room that overlooked the resort for the rest of our stay. The second day of our stay in our new room, our AC was leaking in our room (not a large amount mind you) we placed the trash can under the drip without having to tell the staff. When our housekeeper for the day cleaned our room, she addressed the leak and when we returned early afternoon after having a nice lunch on the beach, our housekeeper for the day had informed us our room was up to par. Clean towels folder ever so nicely, lots of fresh flowers and greens in our room. I say all that to say this... if you are looking for what some may call a fancy, elite or Highbrow.. this is not SANDALS.. what you will find at the Hawksbill is fine, polite, caring staff that love the resort. If you are kind like anywhere in the world, here it too will be justly rewarded. Some of the staff at the resort have been there for many years. The food is good and well worth the value. The wine selection was also good and we travel to wineries abroad. The rum drinks are tasty. Take the time to enjoy each other, the staff and life here. Truly see the details and small things that matter like conversation, friends, good food, lovely beaches and a staff that care enough to also pay attention to the details no matter how small If you desire a local to take you around the island, see Oscar/Oliver on Eden Beach.. it was a day my husband and I will never forget. He is a delightful, educated man who can speak well about most any subject, he is passionate about the Island and his fondness for it is evident.
