The South
A holiday in the south of Argentina has plenty to offer adventure travellers who enjoy a remote getaway, trekking and exploring through the cold national parks of Patagonia, the mountainous Tierra del Fuego islands and thawing out at the beach resorts of Rio Negro. The southern coastline is particularly appealing with its stunning array ofmore
Los Glaciares National Park - Andy Jackson. Date of travel: Apr 2006
The most spectacular sight there is - watching the power of nature! The Perito Moreno glacier is unbelievable - a wall of ice creaking and groaning and then roaring as chunks of ice crash into the water below. What an experience! Truly humbling as you sit and watch for hours. We stayed in El Calafate - the nearest town and made it a day trip. Well worth it and a Patagonian treasure for sure!
Tierra del Fuego - Rachel Huntrie. Date of travel: Feb 2004
Although the wild open spaces of Tierra del Fuego are beautiful in one sense, I wouldn't say it was necessary to travel this far down south just to see it, as the area is windswept and icy cold and the towns don't hold much interest. But if you are in the region then it is worth visiting Ushuaia right on the southernmost tip which has an otherwordly and isolated feel.
visit the Perito Merino glacier - Rob Dale. Date of travel: Feb 2003
If travelling to Patagonia it is a MUST to visit the Perito Merino glacier - I took a tour which was basically just the transport to and from the glacier, but nothing more was needed as the time spent just sitting and watching and listening to the glacier was an awesome experience. I spent hours watching the blue chunks of ice crashing into the water below and shot off almost a whole roll of film!
