Cairns
The bright and busy city of Cairns in the north of Queensland is a gateway to this Australian state’s coveted tourist attractions, thousands of tourists constantly pouring in and out of its international airport, stopping in the city to draw breath before heading for the island resorts of the Great Barrier Reef, the ancient Daintreemore
Cairns on a budget... - Jeff. Date of travel: Mar 2005
I visited Cairns back in 2005 and again in 2006. Since I was backpacking on a budget, I went rather no frills. The people were incredible, always helpful and the locals were pretty up front about the tours that were the most bang for the buck. The Daintree Rainforest was interesting but the Reef was incredible. I went both times, once on Down under dive and the next time on Poseidon. Poseidon was better but just by a hair. Cairns as a town/city was smaller than I thought. I stayed at the Cairns Queenlander, clean room affordable with a small kitchen for cooking instead of paying to dine out. Transfers were easy and rater cost efficent.
