Potosi
The Bolivian city of Potosi has two main attractions: its Spanish Colonial heritage and its silver and tin mines. The two are intertwined, because Potosi was built by the Spanish in the 16th Century on the wealth of its silver, and although the colonial hey-days have waned, a holiday in Potosi still delights with somemore beautiful architecture and eye-opening visits to the mines of the Cerro Rico, where workers toil in miserable conditions in the hope of finding their fortunes.
