Sao Tiago Island
With a centuries-old history of slaving and shipwrecks, Sao Tiago is the largest of the Cape Verde Islands, and site of the Republic’s capital city, Praia. Those who come to holiday in Sao Tiago though come more for the beautiful palm-fringed beaches than for history, and are rewarded with a lively, colourful island where musicmore and markets fill the cobbled streets of the old colonial towns, and some stunning scenery is on offer in the mountainous interior.
