Cayman Brac
Kathleen Richardson. Date of travel: Feb 2005
My husband and I just spent a week on Cayman Brac in a small cottage on the beach. We were extremely disappointed in the island and would not recommend it for anyone right now unless you have tons of money to rent a boat to snorkel or dive. The food there is quite expensive - whether you buy it in a grocery store or in a restaurant. There is absolutely nothing to do there. We bicycled around, played cards, read, drank wine, hiked on the Brac (bluff), watched the sunsets. We had expected to snorkel but the island is surrounded by something called 'ironshore'.It is a wide expanse of black rock that extends from the edge of the shoreline to the surf. There are almost no decent beaches there - and certainly no areas for snorkeling from the beach. Right now they are in the middle of a drought - no significant rain since Sept. so everything is dried up - the grass is crispy brown, the shrubs are all wilted. It is depressing.
