Just came home from Shanghai, what a city! I found a very nice tour guide. Lisa showed me all the hidden places in the city. I think it's worth the money to hire a local guide. What you have to try is a subway ride at 8am, so many people!

All the Chinese people in the world seem to live in Shanghai. It is a busy city, especially the shopping areas of Nanjing Lu and behind The Bund. The Huang Pu river is the busiest I have seen, with boats jostling for space on the brown water. Across the river is the Oriental Pearl tv tower, the instantly recognisable feature of Shanghai. The city feels very safe, I wandered around the backstreets and had no worries. Visit the spectacular Yu Yuan gardens for a breather, or the Jade Buddha Temple close by. Make a point of sampling dumplings at Yu Yuan Garden Tea House. For the nightlike take a taxi trip ti Irene's Thai Restaurant - 150 yuan for an 'all you can eat' thai spectacular including drinks. I know, Thai in China, but believe me it is worth it. You can then dance the night away next door. Tour Operator: organised myself
