French Alps in Summer - Peter & Mary Wright (plus six friends). Date of travel: Jul 2007
What a gem of a place! I was not prepared for the variety and beauty of the Haute Savoie in summer. It's not just for the skiers. Vibrant alpine towns and medieval cities with a wonderful architectural heritage, alpine farms, baroque churches, art deco buildings and palaces; an area of endless captivating and enchanting towns and villages. Chair lifts, cable cars and cog railways transported us into the very heart of the high mountains, we admired mythical summits, exceptional panoramas, and flower-filled meadows. There was an extraordinary choice of sports activities, geared for both tentative beginners and keen enthusiasts. There was something for everybody. Endless tours, marked hiking trails, mountain bike tracks, bike parks, rock climbing, horse riding, rafting, canyoning, paragliding, golf courses and tennis, we tried them all. We did activities we haven't done for 15 years and felt so alive.

Location: Arc 1950, Savoie Region, French Alps. We got a flight into Geneva airport and then hired a car and drove to the resort which took about three hours. The hairpin bends on the route up the mountain were a bit scary but worth it as the location could not be better. Tour Operator: Booked direct
