Couple of hours south of Paris this is the region of chateaux,vineyards and the river Loire- cheap flites fly to the city of Tours which is a great base - gorgeous medievel town square with lots of bars,restaurants and cafes to sit outside in the Summer. Best to hire a car and tour the chateaux set along the river- one of the best is Chambord which has a fab sound and light show every evening in the Summer with great fireworks over the chateau - also very pretty is Usse - apparently Cinderellas castle was modelled on this one! You can visit loads of 'caves' at the side of the road to try the local wine which is really cheap. also great was a restaurant in Tours called la biberon where you get your wine in a babys bottle!!!
