Original Blackforest Cake in Triberg! Anyone who likes Blackforest Cake must go to the place where the original recipe is still made...We found the beautiful little town Triberg in the Black Forest (which also boasts Germany's highest waterfalls, in addition to more coockoo clock shops than you've ever imagined existed). A worthwhile trip in its own right, but the highlight surely was the cake at the Cafe Schaefer (on the main street). Chef Schaefer inherited the orginal recipe from the chef who invented the cake, as his grandfather worked as his apprentice. They have the original recipe book there, for anyone with an interest in the history. Definitely the best I've ever had and well worth a day trip to Triberg.
