Skopelos
Ideal for honeymooners, the relatively unspoilt island of Skopelos is the largest in the Sporades group in the northern Aegean Sea. A Skopelos holiday is a peaceful, relaxing experience: bask and bathe on one of the many sandy beaches; explore the terraces of whitewashed, shuttered townhouses; soothe the spirit in one of 380 churches; hikemore
Skip the main village and go to Glossa/Loutraki - Heinz. Date of travel: Sep 2008
On going to Skopelos I would skip the main village and spend time on the other side of the island in Glossa and Loutraki. It is much quieter and you still have access to the main town should you wish to explore. Also from this side of the island you can jump over to Skiathos for a day.
Skopelos is good for adults - David Oxberry. Date of travel: Aug 2008
The town of Skopelos is very attractive. The narrow streets are clean and the houses neat and well looked after. Lots of excellent and reasonably priced eating places. Not recommended for children.
Beautiful Skopelos - Julie Bruffell. Date of travel: Aug 2007
Skopelos is a beautiful island. Beaches all a bus ride away from the town, but worth going to. Town wonderful. Shops open til after midnight. Bars open til small hours. Some lovely restaurants. Try Anna's. Overall an island I'd return to. Even in high season not overcrowded although parking close to beaches was a nightmare.
Skopelos - C Roberts. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Skopelos Town is beautiful. We like staying in or around towns, there is a bit more life than being just by the beach but we dont like too much (rowdy) life! The town isnt very big, although it might look it from a distance. The main road along the front of the harbour is packed with tavernas and restaurants, although we preferred to eat inside the town itself, in the back streets and beyond. The town has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, day and night. The prices are reasonable, try eating at Alexanders (just follow the arrows), The Garden, Stergios (lots of free food and drink), and Finikas (not Anna's finikas in town) but just Finikas- which is located on the road going out of town, past the tall ship. His restaurant is up a slight hill, again with great views of the town and the food is superb. The owner is also the cook and waiter, (he used to be a chef in Athens) and the food is wonderful, prices are good and the owner is very warm and friendly. The buses are great and always on time, well, almost and they will pack you on until there is no room to breathe! The nearest beach is Stafilos and Velanio (Velanio is very quiet) (mainly sandy) but they are both down a steep road (not great coming back up to the bus stop), Agnondas is a great beach, stoney, with nice tavernas. Skopelos is recommended by us, it's quiet, but with lots to see and very pretty.
