We were looking for somewhere quiet and uncommercialised and we certainly found it at Scala Sotiros on the island of Thassos. This resort has a working fishing harbour where you can watch the local fisherman proudly display their daily catch. There is a small beach here a handful of tavernas and a couple of shops and very little else. We stayed at the Vranas Studios which are set amongst the olive trees. There is a swimming pool here and the rooms are simple but very comfortable. There is also a taverna and bar here where we spent many a happy evening mingling with other like minded guests. We hired a car with air conditioning so we could explore this fascinating island but always returned each evening to the peace of our sleepy hideaway. Tour Operator: Kosmar

We went to Skala Potamis on the Island of Thassos which is situated in a stunning crescent bay with a beautiful mountain backdrop. The beach is sandy and the resort peaceful. There are a number of typically Greek tavernas and a few bars, though thankfully these tend to be low key, except for the overhyped Erics bar which is a con and awful. This is very much a relaxing holiday away from the bright life and night life. It is especially suited to couples who just want to take it easy but we have our doubts whether it is the right resort for singles or children. We stayed at the Susie Studios which all round were basic but comfortable and we were more than content here. Tour Operator: Thomsons
