In contrast to its chaotic capital, Athens, Greece’s “second string” metropolis, Thessaloniki in northern Macedonia, is a city of boulevards and Byzantine architecture, its modern aspect resulting from a tragic destructive fire in 1917. There is no underground in Thessaloniki - Mary. Date of travel: Apr 2008
The article is wrong, as there are works being done for the new metro (underground) on Egnatia street, it will not be ready until after 2010.

Halkidiki - Hanioti - This is definately the area that I would recommend for people to stay. It is a quiet resort but you still have things to do ie shop and eat. It is all based around a square and this is where the night life is with the shops, bars, restaurants. The beach is a shingle type beach and waters are lovely and clear. Tour Operator: thomsons
