Eger
There are many reasons for taking a holiday in Eger, the lovely Baroque town in northern Hungary: not only was it home to one of history’s greatest patriotic heroes, but it is also ornately beautiful, famed for its thermal baths and distinctly desirable for those with a palate for fine wine. Vines have grown heremore since the 11th century, even before heroic István Dobó held the town against a horde of Turks in 1552. Museums, churches and monuments complete the picture.
