We thought we'd be clever and cut costs by travelling out of season (normally accomodation is cheaper and there are no crowds), but everything is actually quite dead in winter. There were hardly any people around, most cheap hostel type accomodation was closed, reduced tourist services and less transport, closed info offices, less transport between places and shorter opening hours of sites. Also difficult to meet up with other travellers and exchange tips - all in all not such a great idea!
