Our family of four made the big move from the northern suburbs of Sandton, Johannesburg to the incredibly different Milan in 2003. Although Milan is considered to be a commercial city by Italian standards, there is plenty to see and do. For the average South African, one is blown away by the sheer presence of history (Milan dates back to 300BC) everywhere in the Centro (city Center). Apart from all the well listed things to see, Milan is a great hub by being close (3 hours drive or less) to the Alps, Venice, Florence, Pisa, the great lakes and the Lingurian coast. Its well worth a stopover at the very least.
