Naples
Visitors who come to holiday in Naples, the city placed half-way down the west coast of the “boot” of Italy, may at first be tempted to turn tail and run when faced with the crumbling cosmopolitan chaos that greets them. Traffic jams the streets, beggars assail at every turn, grubby washing hangs from squalid tenements, more

Naples is a horrible first impression - S.Yurek. Date of travel: Aug 2008
Changed trains in Naples from Roma to Salerno and were promptly mugged (thief failed then screamed at us until he was given a few coins). Nonetheless we walked outside to get a feel for Naples and were completely put off by the filth, chaotic traffic even Romans would blink at, and the third world look of the city at large. Naples is situated in one of the most gorgeous natural environments in the world, but is an absolute wreck of a city. I would like to give it another try, but if first impressions are telling, I'd say there are few historical sites worth that scary place. Most travellers would be happier to keep going to Pompeii, then the towns of the exquisite Amalfi Coast, which are more relaxed and well cared for.
Naples: Jekyll and Hyde - Tony Boniface. Date of travel: Apr 2007
Okay, let's get the negatives out of the way: Naples has more than its fair share of problems; immigration, poverty and disillusionment. There's barely a square inch of wall below six feet that isn't covered in graffitti, the pavements are populated with rubbish and dog mess and the traffic is truly appalling (crossing EVERY road is like life-or-death Frogger). There are areas where the pavements are lined with poor souls who have no option but to rifle bins to find anything that can be sold for a few cents. Okay, now the positive points: The Archeological Museum, Cathedral and Botanical Gardens are fantastic, Pompeii and Herculaneum will transport you to a different time and the food (I promise you this) will blow your mind (seriously). I've tried to make this as balanced as possible. The choice is yours. On balance I would say this, 'Go there and delight in the chaos!'
Wonderful Napoli - Paolo. Date of travel: Mar 2005
Well, it's my town. Wonderful, magic, crazy, sometime hard. But this is the land where the magic of songs as 'O Sole Mio whee written by loving souls. And I think the Neapolitan soul, is the principal filter you need not to visit it but to meet it. This is the only way to love it deeply in all is parts and not only in it's coloured landscapes, museums, ancient buildings, islands, archaeological, ruins.. all things that you will see as "designed" from the hand of God as an original and wonderful work. Napoli is really beautiful. Come and discover it. Love something and then give it to the world. Nothing will be more precious. Tour Operator: Rising Incoming Organizer
