• THE COAST (KENYA) HOLIDAY REVIEWS

The Coast (Kenya)
Exploited by Arab traders of old, and colonized by Portugal in the Middle Ages, the Kenyan coast and its busy port city of Mombasa is littered with relics of these visitors. It is the magnificent beaches and coral marine parks that draw thousands of package tourists to holiday on the coast of Kenya though, relaxingmore
Romantic Getaway along the Andaman Ocean, Ton Sai, Thailand. - Maria Shabba. Date of travel: Dec 2008
If you want to spend some time with your man, far away from the hassles of home, then a week on an island in the Andaman Ocean of the coast of Thailand is ideal. We stayed at a bungalow called Green Valley resort. It was simple, but it included an amazing breakfast, and loads of peace and quiet.
Climbing holiday in Railay, Thailand - Anne Smart. Date of travel: Dec 2008
The Andaman coast offers great opportunities for a climbing vacation. You can have a break from it all while brushing up on your skills. There are various operators that run out of Ton Sai and Railay beaches, and all along the coast. Once you have done a couple courses, you can kayak into caves and along the craggy coastline.
One week at the beach in Thailand - Mary Wills. Date of travel: Dec 2008
Just a stone’s throw from Ao Nang beach is Ton Sai – an idyllic holiday spot far away from the busy mainland. If you are in South East Asia for an extended holiday, in Thailand for one week – or simply want to go on vacation to get from it all – then you must make a detour here. The food was great, accommodation cheap, and there are loads of activities to keep you busy.
Diani Beach, Kenya - Franz and Petra. Date of travel: Oct 2008
Diani Beach, Kenya
We always thought there are only very expensive Safaris or very cheap ones we should avoid. The concept of Rose from Diani Tours to organize quality Safaris for a small budget has convinced us otherwise. We booked with her a 3 day Masai Mara Safari for an extremely low price but we came back fully loaded with unbelievable impressions. Thanks Rose for lighting our fire of love for your country and your wildlife.
Hua Hin - Alex Loeb. Date of travel: Jan 2008
This beach town is a favorite among Thai beach goers but i can't discern why. It is an easy drive from Bangkok but with just a bit more effort absolutely stunning beaches present themselves. Both the Hilton and Sheraton have beautiful hotels here that lucky deal seekers, like me, can sometimes take advantage of. But other than revelling in a five star spa there isn't much to see or do. The king has made his home here but the best parts of the palace are off limits to viewers. Downtown hotels across from the beach were about 20 to 25 dollars.
Turtle Bay Beach, Kenya - Martin Day. Date of travel: Oct 2003
Turtle Bay Beach Club is about 70 miles north of Mombassa, so you don't get any of the problems that you normally get in the Mombassa area. The nearest large town is Malindi, which is about 10 miles further north. TBBC is located in a small town called Watamu, which is a very cosmopolitan place, a real mixture of peoples of all backgrounds, colours, religions. The coast at this point is actually part of the Kenyan Marine National Park, so there is fantasic scuba diving and snorkling just offshore. Swimming in the sea is like taking a warm bath!! Plenty of other things to do in the area. Mida Creek at the back of Watamu, is one of the best places for bird watching in Kenya. I'm not into bird watching, but you cannot fail to be impressed by a Sea Eagle in full flight or when it dives to catch a fish. Or just lay back and enjoy a pleasant Dhow Cruise around the Creek. Nearby is the town of Gedi, this has an ancient ruined town that was overgrown by the bush, only rediscovered in the early 20th century. The place is very spookey, especially around sunset. Lots of wild monkeys running around, its extremely atmospheric. Nearby, is a very well kept secret, the Spirit Caves, you will not find these in any of the tourist guides or on the list of official trips. These caves are vast, they are used by the locals for Voodo practises. They actually carry out live sacrifices of small animals here, they try and put good luck or bad luck on other people. It does not sound very nice, but it is without doubt one of the most simple and atmospheric places I have ever been. Generally there is plenty to do around the area, great walking, bird watching, horse riding, deep sea fishing. Or you can easily go on a Safari to anywhere in Kenya or Tanzania. We like the place so much that we have been back many times. Its like a home from home. You won't be disappointed. If you prefer a more upmarket Hotel, then just along the beach is Hemmingways. PS: Only a two or Three Hour time difference, so no Jet Lag.
