Luang Prabang
Situated at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, the city of Luang Prabang in Laos is a laid-back city bearing the faded remnants of its French colonial past. Monks stroll meditatively beside the riverfront allotments, where farmers harvest produce to be sold in the local market stalls. This is a city with amore
Kuang Si Waterfalls, Luang Prabang – our Laos holiday nightmare - Rabecca Thom. Date of travel: Dec 2009
Arriving on holiday in Luang Prabang, freshly off the slow boat, we were keen to find out about day trips out to the surrounding countryside. We headed out to the streets in search of a tuktuk to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Our driver offered to take us straight to the falls, or for a little extra, we could visit a “typical village” in addition. We thought we would splash out a bit – after all, we might never get the chance again. What a mistake. Our little outing through the village was an utter sham. It was nothing more than a paved lane of beggars. When in Luang Prabang – take a tuktuk straight to the falls, it’ll save you more than money.
Culinary holiday in Luang Prabang, Laos - Heather Hunter. Date of travel: Dec 2008
On our holiday in Luang Prabang we shifted into gear once we were revived at Loa-Lao Gardens. This cosy outdoor restaurant is set into the terraced forest foothills and runs off of a winding lane. A visit to Luang Prabang is incomplete without the local tipple beside the fireside at Lao-Lao Gardens. Their food is rivalled by none.
Our after hours holiday break in Luang Prabang, Laos. - Renee Miles. Date of travel: Dec 2008
Our vacation had just begun - and we were midway into our third drink at Loa-Lao Gardens in Luang Prabang when the management kindly asked us to go home. Curfew sets in early in communist Laos, sometimes as early as 11pm. We were given plastic cups to decant our drinks into and ushered out onto the street. The doorstep of the restaurant was flush with tuktuks – all shouting, “Bowling Bar”. En mass we were delivered to this covert bar, where illicit drink and the game of bowling could be had. Authorities seemed to turn a blind eye as the farangs got blind-drunk.
My favourite place! - Jem Sterns. Date of travel: Sep 2004
Luang Prabang is awesome - great culture, fantastic temples and scenery, wonderful guesthouses to stay in, delicious food etc. We loved our progressive street meals - from the omelette man and noodle lady, to the fruit shake lady and pancake man we tried everything on offer and everything was great! Also had a wonderful herbal sauna in one of the back streets. Loved the ornate wats and temples, and watching the monks in orange garb with their rayban sunglasses, large umbrellas and briefcases walking down the streets!
Great - Mandine Gilette. Date of travel: Sep 2003
