Dubbed the “city of sails”, New Zealand’s cosmopolitan city of Auckland buzzes with activity on its many waterways as much as it does on land. To enjoy the gentle side of the city visit Titirangi , gateway to the Waitakere Ranges - Helen Merton. Date of travel: Aug 2008
The harbour in Auckland is beautiful, and a day trip to Waiheke Island or Devonport is a treat, yet only 20 minutes west of the central city, Titirangi village is the gateway to Auckland's coastal rainforest park. Undiscovered and relaxing, the Waitakere Ranges has more than 200km of hiking trails. The village has everything from a supermarket, gas station, pharmacy, bank, post office, library, art gallery and gift shops.

North Island experience - Elizabeth McJannett. Date of travel: May 2008
The Auckland area has lots to offer with a great variety of activities relatively close by. An hour or two north are stunning deserted beaches with pristine water! A couple of hours south to Rotorua and you can enjoy all the Maori cultural experiences and thermal pools. I recommend renting a 'Wicked' camper to the budget conscious. Check out Woofers New Zealand for a work experience while you are there, it’s a great way to meet and understand local ways.

Auckland's Coastal Rainforest Region - The Waitakere Ranges - Kate Henderson. Date of travel: May 2007
Auckland is a vibrant city surrounded by two harbours with many parks including the Waitakere Ranges to the west. A wonderful way to enjoy all that Auckland has to offer is to stay a few nights in the city and then experience pure New Zealand and relax among the trees in Titirangi, gateway to the Waitakere Ranges, Auckland's coastal rainforest park. Once logged until the late 1800's, the park is now protected and offers over 200 kms of hiking trails which lead to delightful picnic spots beside waterfalls, or along clifftops with views across theTasman Sea.

JohnElston, Christine Elston. Date of travel: Feb 2004
This was the sixth visit to New Zealand and the place has changed tremenously over the past 20 years. A terrific lifestyle, the houses are beautifully designed and the scenery is to die for. The south island is the most scenic and the best mode of travel is the campervan, not cheap but a super experience. We will return again one day. Tour Operator: Marrion Owen, Hull
