Didn't really like Queenstown - too many tourists with money. Yes you can do anything from here and it has a pretty stunning setting, but you have to share it with tourists spending money to get an adrenaline rush and fight off the tour operators - doesn't seem to have much local flavour. Views from the top of Ben Lomond above the town really beautiful and worth it though - you can take the cable car up and then walk to the top to escape the general crowds or can walk the whole way in peace and quiet from the road. You can also join the masses and sign up for jet boating, bungee jumping, luging, white water rafting etc. Also lots of amazing walks in the area.
