Beautiful scenery, beautiful people - Terry-Jo. Date of travel: Jun 2008
Oslo is by far the most peaceful, prettiest, and most relaxing city I've been to. If you can get over the high alcohol and food prices (which can be avoided by grabbing a picnic, a couple of beers and heading to one of the thousands of parks), it's impossible not to love it. June was the most beautiful time of the year, with the Norwegians really coming out and showing visitors how to enjoy the sun that they missed for so long. Every park, pond and grassy patch is filled with sunbathers, and the people are extremely down-to-earth and lovely.
I've spent a few months in Oslo now, so having seen through the winter and spring, I have to note that the best thing about Oslo is the fact that, no matter what time of year, you can enjoy the nature. In winter, people who live near forests even ski to work if they can, in spring the swimming ponds are filled and everybody soaks in the sun. If you come to Oslo, expect to do as the locals do and just enjoy the simple beauty of nature and do a lot of walking :) The people may not be very outgoing, and have often been described as cold, but it came as a big surprise to find they were anything but. Shy yes, cold no. They are friendly, open-minded, warm and not as glamorous as the Danish, so I didn't feel as foreign here.
Good places to visit: Vigeland (or Frogner) Park, the Kon-Tiki museum, Akershus Festning (the fortress), the peace prize museum, Karl Johan's Gate (the bustling shopping street), Holmenkollen (the highest ski jump), the opera house, and just about any park in any of the surrounding suburbs. Also, there are flea markets happening every second week in areas such as Grønerlokka, and in spring and summer months there are free (really good) music concerts in many of the city's parks every weekend. To relax and enjoy yourself is pretty much free, so if you don't mind not eating out at restaurants, there is so much to do. Also, if you are looking for moderate prices, there are student bars in the city centre and good restaurants in areas such as Majorstuen (including vegetarian food!) or Grønland.

Boat trip on the Oslofjord - R.H. Dubois. Date of travel: Mar 2008
I wanted to see a Norweigian fjord and the winter landscape of the Oslo fjord, and I was recommended by another tourist to try this sightseeing boat of a company named BatOpplevelse AS. As I could understand this was a new boats for scenic tours on the Oslo fjord. The crew was very friendly and gave me some good hint of where find my way in the city. The guide was a funny guy, and the islands of the fjord beautiful. Oscarsborg Fortress with the torpedo battery and the history of occupation of Norway during the World War II was quite interesting. :) I here by recommend it further!

Oslo is a great place. You are never short of things to do. Whether it be taking a walk through Vigelands Park or going to the shops at Akker Briggae. The night life is also good, any bar you walk past always has a good buzz about it! It's probably down to the relaxed atmosphere and general friendliness of the Norwegians, your always made to feel welcome! The only downfall is the price of things, especially alcohol. If I ever won the lottery I think I'd move over! Tour Operator: Ryanair

Oslo - Paul Sinnom. Date of travel: Aug 2004
I went to Oslo in August 2004 I was suprised at the amount of tourists there were that day I only saw a few Norwegian people by the palace. The best bit about the city was the fact that it had that small city feel and yet it felt as if you could have been in a city with millions of people living there .The shops were great although I would advise you to bring extra money with you if you want to buy lots of things here. The people were also great they were not rude as I was told by other people. Western Oslo was a big surprise it was the very elegant part of the city with big houses and expensive cars. The only downside to Oslo was the fact that all the main roads and motorways coming into and out of the city were completely blocked up with traffic.

Oslo was one of those fantastic small capitals that is very easy to understand although there was lots of traffic everywhere. I still got to places easily. There were many places to see as well; the weather was also pretty good with sun and warm temperatures. Tour Operator: My Travel

While in Oslo it is very worthwhile to go to the Bygdoy Peninsula and visit all the museums there, all fascinating. Also some amazing statues in Viegeland Park. Nice city with a small town feel - unusual for a capital.
